Ramp Closure Sign

(Trenton) – Route 15 is scheduled to have lane and ramp closures on Friday night for bridge deck repairs in Wharton, Morris County. In addition, the I-80 eastbound detour at Exit 34 will be modified Friday night while the bridge deck repairs are being made. The Route 15 bridge deck work is routine maintenance and unrelated to the I-80 eastbound closure.

Beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, March 14 until 5 a.m. Saturday, March 15, the right lane on Route 15 southbound and the acceleration lane from the North Main street ramp to Route 15 southbound are scheduled to be closed. At least one lane on Route 15 southbound will be maintained. The Route 15 southbound on and off ramps at North Main Street and the Route 15 southbound exit to I-80 westbound will remain open.

In addition, the North Main Street ramp to Route 15 northbound is scheduled to be closed and detoured at the same time, requiring the I-80 eastbound detour at Exit 34 to be modified for the night. The closures are necessary to make concrete repairs on the Route 15 southbound Bridge over the North Main Street ramp to Route 15 northbound. The following detours will be in place:

North Main Street to Route 15 northbound Detour:

  • Motorists wishing to take North Main Street/CR 634 to Route 15 northbound will be directed to take East Dewey Avenue/CR 642 eastbound

  • Turn left onto Route 15 northbound

I-80 eastbound Exit 34 Detour – Friday night only:

  • Motorists on I-80 eastbound will be directed to take Exit 34 to Route 15/Wharton/Dover/Sparta

  • Turn left following signs for Wharton

  • Turn left onto East Dewey Avenue/CR 642 eastbound

  • Turn left onto Route 15 northbound

  • Stay right to take the ramp to I-80 eastbound

The project is part of a $16 million state-funded contract to perform preventative maintenance and increase the service life of bridge structures in various locations across Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, Union and Warren counties.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information, and for NJDOT news follow us on X (Twitter) @NewJerseyDOT, the NJDOT Facebook page, or on Instagram @NewJersey.DOT.
