Route 15 southbound Bridge over Rockaway River: Lane closures tonight in Jefferson, Morris County. Traffic to be shifted onto the newly constructed side of the bridge
(Trenton) – One lane on Route 15 southbound is scheduled to be closed Wednesday night to shift traffic on the Route 15 southbound Bridge over the Rockaway River as work advances to replace the 124-year-old bridge in Jefferson, Morris County.
Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, November 13 until 5 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, November 14, one lane on Route 15 southbound is scheduled to be closed in order to reposition construction barrier to shift traffic onto the newly constructed shoulder and left lane on the Route 15 southbound Bridge over the Rockaway River.
By 5 a.m. Thursday, November 14, Route 15 southbound traffic will be shifted to the left, and the right side of the road will be closed. The temporary bridge that was installed this summer will be removed, and the right side of the original bridge will be demolished and reconstructed. This configuration is expected to be in place for approximately one year.
The $11.6 million project will replace the Route 15 southbound Bridge over the Rockaway River. The new bridge will be a single-span concrete box beam structure with two 12-foot-wide travel lanes, 10-foot-wide inside and outside shoulders, and sidewalks on both sides of the bridge. The new bridge will improve the roadway geometry and improve sight distance. The project will advance in stages to ease impact on motorists. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2025.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
