Alternating traffic on Weldon Road Bridge Wednesday to restore two lanes of traffic
(Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the Route 15 northbound ramp to Weldon Road westbound will be closed this week as the bridge replacement project nears completion in Jefferson, Morris County. In addition, the Weldon Road Bridge over Route 15 will have lane closures and alternating traffic on Wednesday, April 24.
Beginning at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, April 24, until 4 p.m., Friday, April 26, the Route 15 northbound ramp to Weldon Road westbound is scheduled to be closed. In addition, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, April 24, one lane on the Weldon Road Bridge over Route 15 is scheduled to be closed with alternating traffic. There may be temporary 15-minute stoppages of traffic during the day. The closure is necessary to remove construction barrier and restripe the roadway.
By 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, traffic will be shifted into the final configuration on the bridge with two lanes in each direction. The Route 15 northbound ramp to Weldon Road westbound will remain closed until 4 p.m. Friday for concrete curb work and repaving. The following detour will be in place:
Route 15 northbound to Weldon Road westbound detour:
Traffic on Route 15 northbound wishing to take the Exit to Weldon Road westbound will be directed to take the jughandle exit for Lake Hopatcong East Shore, which is 1 mile before Weldon Road
Turn left at the end of the ramp
Go straight at the traffic signal across Route 15 northbound onto Edison Road/CR 615
Continue straight through the traffic signal across Route 15 southbound
Turn right onto Espanong Road, which becomes Weldon Road
The $7.6 million project will replace the Weldon Road Bridge over Route 15. The new bridge will restore two lanes of traffic in each direction and improve the vertical clearance under the bridge. The project will advance in stages with one side of the bridge being demolished and reconstructed, then the other. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on the bridge. The project is expected to be complete in spring 2024.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
