LAKE HOPATCONG – Close to $5,000 was raised at the first Lake Hopatcong Foundation mini golf tournament held Saturday at the Lake Hopatcong Mini Golf Course. The money will be used to help support the Foundation’s Water Quality Study program. An additional $900 in donated gifts and prizes were given away to golfers.

IMG_9174“This is a great festive atmosphere,” said Foundation President Jessica Murphy. “Everyone is having a good time,” she said as prizes were being handed out to the first flight of golfers.

The event was split into two flights with a ‘shot-gun’ start for each flight. Gift bags were awarded to each member of the team with the lowest score and a bottle of Lake Hopatcong Syrup went to anyone who shot a hole-in-one on either the sixth hole or hole 14.

Ironically, Mindy Savage, wife of Lake Hopatcong Syrup maker, Rick, shot a hole-in-one on 14 and accepted her prize graciously.

“We really don’t need another bottle of syrup,” she said. “I’ll give this to my friends.”

For ten-year old Grace Murphy and her friend, Camryn Hussey, 9, the course they said was “pretty hard” but each managed a hole-in-one during their round of play.

“It’s pretty hard,” said Grace, who lives in East Hanover. “It’s hot. But the hot dogs are very good,” she said. The Dog Pound of Roxbury provided the hot dogs.

92 adults and children participated in the event. There were 28 hole sponsors and 18 local businesses that gave a prize donation.
